New Delhi, November 18:: Underlining the need for changing the image of the "ugly Indian politician", senior BJP leader L K Advani on Tuesday said one way of making this possible was by encouraging more young people to join politics.

"I tell my fellow politicians, particularly those belonging to my own party, that it is our duty to erase this image of the 'ugly Indian politician'....it is necessary for the best and the brightest among the youth to join politics and serve the nation," Advani said.

He was speaking at a seminar on "National Values Crisis and its Redressal" organised by the Foundation for Restoration of National Values.

The 81-year-old leader cited Transparency International's annual reports where India ranks high in the corruption index and the United Nations report in which India ranks low in the Human Development Index. He held responsible the lack of professionalism among politicians as the reason for this state of affairs.

"Politics was a noble profession during the freedom Movement...After Independence, the spirit of mission got gradually diluted...Unfortunately, in India today politics is seen neither as a mission nor as a profession, but as pure commerce," Advani lamented.

However, the senior leader pointed out that it was not just in politics that the values had gone down. "The lack of integrity and professional ethics is seen among lawyers, judges, doctors.... and even security personnel. It is seen even in the media," Advani said.

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate said though the intelligence quotient of an individual could develop lifelong, his emotional, moral and spiritual quotient developed mostly between the age of 15 and 25 years.

"It is necessary for the young to join politics and serve the nation," he said.

I am 22yr old guy , working in a MNC and truely agree with the statement of Mr. L.K.Advani ( 'Youth can change image of ugly Indian politician' ) But on the same side need to ask one question from all that i would like to be a politician , i am Educated but there is no support , no money. How could a person like me can join politics who see no way of entering into it , no support , no political background. What is missing for guys like us who really want to improve our country is " Platform " . so, is there something they all can do for youth to join politics or this is again a statement.and if there is some way I would be the first person to join Politics to improve condition of country.

Sir, Mr. L.K.Advani himself admitted pity politicians of India. I am very sorry to state that all Indian politicians are selfish - hence birth of so may political parties. Need of the hour is not youth - as stated by LKA. But need of the hour is military rule "type- Iddi Amin of S.A. for cleaning Indian politician and politics.

So, why don't you set an example by quitting poliics and making room for the younger generation. BUT, this all double talk is only for the upcoming elections!! Nothing will change, and old people will say the same thing even in year 2050!!!

A POLITICIAN REQUIRES RICH EXPERIENCE OF THE COUNTRY, OF THE PEOPLE, OF THE PROBLEMS FROM ITS LENGTH AND BREADTH, BEFORE TIPPING FOR THE POST TO TAKE THE HIGHEST OFFICE. MR. LAL KRISHNA ADVANI IS A PERSON WITH CORRUPTION LESS TRACK RECORD, ONE OF THE LONGEST SERVING PARLIAMENTARIAN, A PERSON WITH WIDE KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM. ALTHOUGH YOUTH SHOULD BE WELCOMED INTO POLITICS, THEY NEED TO GET ENOUGH EXPERIENCE OF ENOUGH POLITICAL EXPERIENCE. THE RUBBISH TALK OF STREET NATURE HERE IN THIS COLUMNS SHOW THE CULTURE OF THOSE PUTTING THOSE NOTES WHICH WILL NOT IN ANY WAY DOWNGRADE A TRUE STATESMAN LIKE MR.LAL KRISHNA ADVANI. THE MORE HE GETS CRITICIZED, THE MORE VOTES ARE FALLING IN THE BASKETS OF BJP.. REMEMBER, THE RISE OF TWO SEATS IN PARLIAMENT AND THE VOTERS ARE NOT IMPORTED FROM ABROAD; BUT THEY WERE ALL VOTING FOR CONGRESS IN THE PAST !! BUT HAD TO CHANGE THE STAMP DUE TO TRUE ALLEGIANCE.

LKA - one way to changing the image of the "ugly Indian politician" is to take Sanyas and do tapasya for your cardinal sins including responsibility for Murder and Mayhem, in the Himalayas
