Young singles shunning loved up dates for Anti-Valentine's events
A soaring number of young singles in Melbourne are choosing to ditch the traditional February 14 date night in favour of Anti-Valentine's events.
Inner-city venues are even encouraging this trend, the Herald Sun reported.
Windsor bar Morris Jones has dedicated a floor of the Chapel St venue to anti-Valentine's dinners, owner Hayden Burbank said.
Burbank explained that these events are popular since there are a lot of single people who want to get out and don't want to stay home on Valentine's by themselves.
He said bookings for anti V Day dinners were mostly from women in their mid-20s and 30s with "predominately all-girl tables'' expected.
Trendy restaurants Touche Hombre, Claremont Tonic and Louie are also taking the pressure off February 14, according to owner Davis Yu.
Yu said his venues, in the CBD and South Yarra, were taking the "cliche'' out of the loved-up date.
Yu said his venues were expecting couples in groups tomorrow night, rather than romantic dinners for two.
Singles are also staying in with a trend towards throwing "lonely hearts club'' private dinner parties at home.
