Xolo, the premium smartphone brand of Lava International, has announced the launch of Hive, a proprietary user interface which will debut with its new smartphone Xolo 8X-1000.

While Hive will initially be developed for Android, Xolo India business head Sunil Raina told indianexpress.com that the intent was to develop the UI for Windows Phone as well. “Our intent is clear and we will have teams working towards this goal,” he said.

Hive will offer a high level of customisation as well as open a new avenue for customers to interact with the developers. So among the key components will be a module called Connect that lets user suggest features.

Similarly, Edge will give a platform for artists to create customisations for Hive and connect them to the users as well.

Xolo has tied up with last.fm to provide an additional level of data and suggestions in the music player. Top designers have been roped in to create themes that completely change the look and feel of stock Android.

The app draw, contacts and camera have all been tweaked to offer a more customised experience.

Raina said the idea was to make Hive a constantly evolving operating system. For the user this will mean regular software updates.

The 8X-1000, the first phone to feature Hive, will run on an octa-core processor yoked with 2GB RAM. It will have 16GB on board memory expandable up to 32GB, an 8MP Exmor R sensor rear camera and 2MP front camera. The 5-inch HD screen is protected by a Asahi Drangontrail glass, while the rear has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The 8X-1000 has been priced at Rs 13,999.
