At a time when the state police have got transit warrant against self-styled godman Asaram to bring him here from Jodhpur for questioning in connection with a rape charge against him, the Gujarat State Commission for Women is trying hard to find out if there are any other victims who may come out with complaints against him. A team of the Commission visited the Motera Ashram here in order to meet women staying there, but returned without getting much inputs.
Led by chairperson Leelaben Ankoliya, a team of the Commission, along with lady police officials, visited Asaram Ashram and Mahila Ashram. They met around 70 women living there. “We held individual meetings with the women and spoke with them in detail, but none of them complained of harassment or discomfort,” said Ankoliya.
The Commission has announced that women can approach it with their complaints pertaining to any harassment that they may have suffered at the hands of Asaram or his men. “This is our standing offer and any woman can come to us and seek our help in dealing with the perpetrators of harassment,” Ankoliya added.
