Ahead of the Auto Expo, it’s raining compact sedans. Tata Motors, Ford and Hyundai are all planning new products in a segment where Maruti's Dzire is today the leader and Honda's new Amaze the primary challenger.
After the success of the EcoSport compact SUV, Ford on Monday unveiled the 'Figo' sedan concept. Expected for launch around 2015, the sub-four metre Figo sedan will be the first product to roll out of Ford's upcoming plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
Nigel Harris, president, Ford India said. “We expect a launch within two years. Keeping the size at sub-four metres is not a constraint. In fact, it is very spacious”.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors also showcased the Zest compact sedan, while second-largest domestic player Hyundai is set to unveil its 'Grand i10' compact sedan.
