Bangalore: Software major Wipro has strengthened its presence in China with the launch of a new global delivery centre in Chengdu. This facility, which offers IT and BPO services, will become one of the global delivery centres that the IT vendor has been setting up and can grow to provide 1000 seats. At present, the headcount here is 100.
The new centre, Wipro’s second unit in China after its facility in Shanghai, will initially focus on testing and enterprise application services for manufacturing, banking, financial services and insurance industries. The facility will offer multilingual services in English, Chinese and Japanese. Wipro said that it has chosen Chengdu in south-west China because of its favourable business climate, pool of IT professionals and excellent infrastructure. The centre is expected to broaden Wipro’s service capabilities.
Wipro’s chief delivery officer and executive vice-president Sambuddha Deb, in a statement, said: “This facility in Chengdu is one of the global strategic centres and our employees there would be trained in Wipro's quality processes, technologies and the global delivery standards”
“Given the big size of the domestic market in China, volume of outsourcing in the manufacturing sector is also huge,” said Vinu Kartha, MD of Tholons, a research body. China has always been a tough market for Indian companies to penetrate because of cultural reasons, he said.
