A driving expedition across India sounds fun, isn’t it! One gets to experience the different cultures, hear the varied languages and feel the fun. A lot of driving expeditions have been taken up by people in the past, however what we are about to discuss here is, ‘WOW - Will on Wheels’. This is a unique initiative by the Sathyabhama University students in order to promote awareness about physically challenged people and create opportunities where they can compete at the highest level. While the heavy traffic on Indian roads has led a lot of car riders to opt for two-wheelers, the para paraplegic athelete and Arjuna award winner, Deepa Malik have taken up the challenge of travelling a total distance of 2,300 kilometers in a modified Renault Duster. This special journey is being tracked by Cardekho.com from its root point in Chennai to the pit stop cities, Bangalore, Belgaum, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Jaipur right up to the end point in Gurgaon.
The brand ambassador of WoW and the leading participant in the journey, Mrs. Deepa Malik is well known for her participation in international sporting events as well as motorsports in the country. She will be covering the entire journey in a modified Renault; her hands will control the clutch, accelerator and brakes as her leg sensitivity was lost in a spinal surgery a decade ago; the students of Satyabhama University have altered all the aforementioned mechanics for hand use. The 10 students who have altered the Duster and worked on this project, will also be accompanying Deepa on this amazing expedition; the whole group is expected to travel a distance of 250 kilometers on an average, every day, as the total journey is of 10 days. The journey began from Chennai at the Satyabhama University where Deepa was cheered by an audience of over 100 bikers who showed their enthusiasm for this expedition by hooting and clapping for this brave lady.
