Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Friday received backing from none other than melody queen and living legend Lata Mangeshkar who said she wished to see him as the Prime Minister of the country.
“Today is Diwali festival. I pray that he (Modi) should get what you and I want. Narendrabhai should be in the prime minister’s chair...,” said Lata at the inaugural function of the 600-bed Deenanath Mangeshkar superspecialty hospital in the city.
Lata added, “It is the wish of all of us...and your applause indicates the same. I pray that all wishes of Narendra Modi come true.”
Earlier, the singer called him her brother. “He is like my brother. I have spoken to him lot of times on phone and even sent him recordings of Gujarati songs,” Lata said, adding that it was the name of Modi that first came to her when she was asked whom to invite to inaugurate the superspecialty hospital.
In response, Modi said he felt honoured after the Mangeshkar family invited him as the chief guest for the inauguration of the hospital.
“I received a letter from Lata didi six months ago. It was a very heart-touching letter and a big gift of my life,” he said.
Among those present at the inauguration function included Asha Bhosale, Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
