Jaipur: Over fifty per cent voting was registered as bypolls to Salumber and Todabheem Assembly constituencies in Rajasthan ended on a peaceful note.
"No untoward incident was reported from both the constituencies and polling was conducted in a free and fair manner," Additional Director-General of Police (Law & Order) Navdeep Singh said.
Voting percentage will be between 50- 55 per cent, officials said.
One EVM had to be replaced at polling booth number 189 as it developed a technical snag, officials said.
Six candidates were in fray at Salumber while seven contested from the Todahbeem Assembly seat. Counting of votes would take place on November 10.
The bypolls in Salumber and Todahbeem were necessitated following the resignation of Raghuveer Meena (Congress) and Kirorilal Meena (Independent) after they were elected to the Lok Sabha from Udaipur and Dausa constituencies respectively.
Raghuveer's wife Basanti Devi contested the Salumber seat against the BJP's Amritlal Meena, while Kirorilal's candidate Shiv Dayal contested on a Congress ticket against BJP's Ramesh Meena.
The outcome of the polls is being considered crucial for measuring the popularity of the Ashok Gehlot government and determining the stance of Gujjars after the Rajasthan High Court's recent stay on reservation granted to them.
