Vodafone Group Plc on Tuesday announced the appointment of Michel Combes as the CEO of Europe Region, besides other top-level appointments and changes in its organisational structure.

Combes would join Vodafone as the Chief Executive Officer for the Europe region with effect from October 1, a company statement said.

In this role he would be responsible for all markets currently part of the European region, together with Global Marketing and Global Technology and Vodafone business services, statement said.

He would also join the Executive Committee, it added. "I am pleased that we have recruited someone of Michels talents and expertise. I am confident that he will bring significant experience to Vodafone, given his impressive telecoms and entrepreneurial background," Vodafone Group Chief Executive Vittorio Colao said.

Vodafone Group also announced that the Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific (EMAPA) region would be reorganised into two regions with effect from January 1, 2009.

The two regions would be Central Europe/Africa Region and Asia-Pacific region.

The two regional CEOs would join the Executive Committee and these appointments would be announced in due course.

In addition, Vodafones investment in Verizon Wireless would not be part of any operating region and in light of its financial and strategic importance would be managed directly at senior level by Vittorio Colao, Andy Halford and Terry Kramer, the statement said.

Further, with immediate effect Terry Kramer would become the group strategy and business improvement director.

In his role, he would be responsible for strategy development, for the initiatives aimed at productivity and efficiency gains across the group and the governance and coordination of the relationship with Verizon Wireless, it added.

Terry Kramer would also continue in his current role as group HR director, while the company conducts a search for his successor.
