Uttar Pradesh declines offer to be partner state at Vibrant Gujarat summit
The Uttar Pradesh government has declined the Gujarat government’s offer to be a partner state in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit 2013, which will be organised in Gandhinagar from January 11 to 13 to attract investment by showcasing Gujarat’s strengths, progressive policies, initiatives and investor-friendly climate.
Instead, UP will attend the three-day event like an observer so that officials can gather experience before the proposed Global Partnership Summit 2013, which the state is hosting in Agra from January 27 to 29 in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry.
Kaushal Raj Sharma, Special Secretary in Infrastructure and Industry Development Department, will represent UP at Vibrant Gujarat. There will not any special interactive session for UP, nor will the state hire space to showcase its investment promotion initiatives.
The Small Scale Industries Department will, however, display products from carpet and leather industries for which they do not have to pay any charge. Sharma said, “As UP’s representative, I will interact with business houses one-to-one and apprise them about the investor-friendly climate in the state.”
Gujarat chief secretary A K Joti had recently written to the UP chief secretary, offering it to be the partner state in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013. A partner state gets 36 square metre space for setting up an office for showcasing its strengths and initiatives and holding meetings with business houses.
