Lucknow: After alleged souring of talks with NTPC over setting up the 4,000-mw thermal power station in Lalitpur, the Uttar Pradesh government has now decided to give the project into private hands. Proposing to establish the power station on the basis of Case-2 tariff-based competitive bidding for procurement of power, as per guidelines issued by the Centre, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) on Friday invited bids for appointment of a consultant.
Sources in the state energy department said the move to hand over the project to the private sector gained momentum after the NTPC took an extremely long time to study the feasibility report on the project. "There is a severe power crisis in the state, which worsens everyday. We thought it better to go through the PPP mode rather than keep waiting endlessly."
However, sources in the NTPC claimed they were not aware of any such move. "We have not been conveyed anything and as far as we are concerned, talks are still on,” said a NTPC official.
