A group clash during a panchayat meeting led to exchange of fire causing death of a person and injury to two in Jamo police station area of Amethi district on Tuesday.
Amethi SP Alankrita Singh said both the groups had rivalry related to the panchayat elections and difference of opinion over distribution of BPL cards led to a clash between them. Both the groups, each belonging to pradhan of Resi village Sunita Singh and Ram Pawan Singh alias Daddu Singh (26) of Bazgarh village, fired at each other. While a bullet hit Daddu Singh’s head, another hit Sunita’s relative Vijay on his chest.
Angry over bullet injury to Daddu Singh, his associates attacked Sunita’s brother-in-law Arvind Singh with sticks and left him critically injured. The locals somehow intervened and rushed the injured to the district hospital where Daddu was declared brought dead. The condition of Vijay is stated to be critical.
The police are collecting details about the persons involved and raids are being conducted to trace the named accused, added Singh. Jamo police station SHO Shashi Bhushan Singh said the meeting was summoned by gram pradhan (village head) of Resi village panchayat Sunita Singh to discuss various issues related to BPL cards.
