UP declines offer to be partner for Vibrant Gujarat summit
The summit, to be held in Gandhinagar between January 11 and 13, aims to attract investment “by displaying Gujarat’s strengths, progressive policies, initiatives and investor friendly climate”.
“The reason for declining the offer is that business houses participating in Vibrant Gujarat mainly focus on Gujarat that has emerged as an attractive destination for investment. In past such summits, other partner states had not been their priority,” said a UP official.
Instead, Uttar Pradesh will attend as an observer so its officials gain some experience ahead of the proposed Global Partnership Summit 2013, which the state plans to host, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in Agra from January 27 to 29.
The state won’t also hire space to showcase its investment promotion initiatives — at a price of Rs 5 crore — at the Vibrant Gujarat, but the Small Scale Industries Department will display products from carpet and leather industries, for which they don’t have to pay.
