UoP suspends 3 staff suspected to be involved in re-evaluation scam

Following the submission of the report by the fact-finding committee, the University of Pune (UoP) has forwarded a complaint application to the Chatuhshrungi police station and has also suspended the three clerks who were indicted by the committee for being prima facie involved in the alleged re-evaluation racket.

The three clerks —Ashok Ranawade, Ramesh Shelar and Parmar — were suspended by the administration on Friday night. The trio used to used to work with the Examination Department and on November 4 were transferred from the department after the alleged re-evaluation scam came to light. Though Vice-Chancellor W N Gade and Registrar C M Chitale were not available for comment, a university official confirmed the suspensions.

The official said a complaint application has also been forwarded to the Chatuhshrungi police station. “The university is proceeding as per the recommendations of the committee,” said the official. Chatushrungi police confirmed that they have received a complaint application from the UoP authorities.

Senior police inspector Ajay Kadam of Chatushrungi police station said, “University office bearers approached us with a complaint. The complaint says that there have been some malpractices in the re-evaluation procedure and marks of some of the students have been fraudulently increased and money was accepted in return. But the allegations are based on the statements given by the suspects who were arrested in the dummy students’ racket case. An FIR cannot be directly registered on the basis of facts given by a suspect.”
