Univs see a rush for Math Education meta course
Jamia registrar S M Sajid said the two universities have received about 300 applications — more than 10 times the number of seats. The entrance test is scheduled to be held on December 2.
Classes are scheduled to begin on January 3, 2013, to coincide with the beginning of the second semester at both universities.
“Credit-sharing schemes have already been decided by the universities and time table adjustments are being made to accommodate classes,” the registrar said.
Less than half the classes are being held at Jamia — mostly on Saturdays — and existing faculty at both universities will taking the course, he said.
Sajid said Jamia may have to hire one or two more faculty members to teach the course.
The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia and the Mathematics department at Delhi University are collaborating for this programme.
The two-year programme has 20 seats. The hour-long entrance exam will test students’ mathematical and reasoning skills, general awareness and communications skills. The test will be followed by an interview on December 11 and 12.This carries 25 per cent weightage.
Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi have not joined DU and JMI in starting any course yet.
Any student with two full papers in Mathematics at their graduation level will be eligible for the course.
