Unauthorised colonies: Development charges for new colonies waived off

South Municipal Corporation on Monday decided to forgo development charges that the local body should collect after the regularisation of unauthorised colonies. The corporation asked the Delhi government to waive off the cost of land, which the land-owning agencies have to collect from the residents of unauthorised colonies.
Standing Committee Chairman (South corporation) Rajesh Gehlot said the residents have already paid the panchs in the villages.
“The agricultural land was transferred to gram sabha, and thus, the residents had to pay money to panchayat heads in order to get the land. Now, the residents will pay more to get their houses regularised. This will burden them further. So, we have appealed to the Delhi government not to recover cost of land from these people. We will also not take development charges from these colonies for services provided,” Gehlot said.
