EFFI-CYCLE 2012, an inter collegiate design cum race competition, is being hosted at University Institute of Engineering and Technology from October 12 to 14.

It is an initiative of SAEINDIA, Northern Section, aimed at providing an opportunity for young engineers to explore the ‘Environmental Friendly and Economical’ solutions for the day to day mobility needs.

The event is sponsored by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Spark Minda, ICAT, Altair, Vee Gee Automotives parts, Victoria

Tools, Lumax, Motherson Sumi Systems Limited and Subros.

The students’ task will be to design, fabricate, and validate an electrically assisted human power driven three wheeled vehicle, which must be capable of seating two persons.

The event will commence on October 12 where 62 qualified teams from various engineering colleges across India including four IITs, BITS Pilani, PEC, UIET and IGIT Delhi, will compete against each other.

The grand finale is the Endurance Race which will take place on October 14 on a 1.4 kilometre circuit track suitably prepared at the UIET campus, and on which the qualifying teams will drive their vehicles for the maximum number of laps.

EFFI-CYCLE provides an opportunity to young engineering students to set up a trend of designing and fabricating eco-friendly vehicles in India and pioneering the creation of innovative designs.

The Human Powered Vehicle will serve a dual purpose. It will cater to the day-to-day mobility needs of people, and also at the same time, sensitize young minds towards fuel conservation.

These vehicles will be engineered to comply with the fundamentals of ergonomics and at the same time being dynamically stable and able to endure tough conditions.
