Two taxi drivers held for killing woman near Nehru Place

The accused, identified as Sikander Singh (28) and Pradeep Singh (30), had allegedly strangled the victim when she tried to resist their “physically aggressive” behaviour with her.

The woman's body was found near a metro pillar in Nehru Place on April 24.

According to police, the woman was dropped near Defence Colony by her husband, an auto driver, on April 23. “She had called her husband later and told him she was going with two men in a taxi. We had conducted intensive searches of more than 100 vehicles on the basis of the registration number given by the woman's husband and finally found that the vehicle belonged to a travel agency in Nehru Place,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ashok Chand.

The vehicle, Chand added, was owned by Pradeep, who is from Ropar. “A team was sent to Ropar. However, Pradeep had left for Delhi. On Sunday, he was tracked to Moti Bagh and was arrested along with Sikander,” Chand said.

During interrogation, the accused said they had met the woman and gave her a lift with her consent.

“However, when they became physically aggressive, she resisted and they strangled her. Then they went to Nehru Place and dumped the body,” Chand said.

Sikander has been working as a taxi driver in Delhi for the past seven years. Pradeep, police said, came to Delhi in 2002 and started working as a taxi
