Overnight batsmen Jaskaranvir Singh Sohi (140) and Gaurav Gambhir (181) struck brilliant centuries each as Chandigarh scored a mammoth total of 668 against Mohali to garner three points in the ongoing Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield held at Yadavindra Public School cricket ground in Mohali on Tuesday. Mohali were 40 for 1 in their second innings at the close of the day's play after which Chandigarh, who were declared winners, picked up three points while Mohali bagged a point.
Earlier, resuming from their overnight score of 292 for 6, Chandigarh went on to register a mammoth total of 668 in 171 overs. Overnight batsmen Jaskaranvir and Gaurav, who were batting at 42 and 22 runs respectively, went on to complete their centuries.
For Mohali, Mayank Sidana was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 42 runs.
In their second innings, Mohali were 40 for 1 in six overs at the close of the day's play.
Jalandhar beat Amritsar <\b>
Riding high on Raghu Sharma's superb bowling performance (5 for 70), Jalandhar beat Amritsar by ten wickets to collect seven points, including a bonus, in their match played on Tuesday. After skittling out Amritsar for 207, Jalandhar needed 76 runs to win which they achieved without losing any wicket.
Earlier, Amritsar resumed from their overnight score of 67 for 2 and were all out for 207 in 92 overs. Sharad Loomba played a stellar knock of 57 runs. However, none of the other Amritsar batsmen managed to get going as the team was bundled out for 207 by the Jalandhar bowlers. Arush Sabharwal (31) and Charanjit (25) were the other notable scorers for Amritsar. Raghu Sharma was impressive with his line and length as he returned with a five wicket haul. Yogesh Kumar also bowled well to pick up two wickets.
In reply, Jalandhar achieved the target in 17.1 overs without losing any wicket. Opener Taruwar Kohli struck 28 runs while Abhishek remained unbeaten on 45 runs.
