Germany's TUV Rheinland, an independent certification firm, is planning to ramp up its headcount in India by more than double to 1,000 in next three years and increase its presence to meet growing demand.

"India is and will always remain a target market for us. We have 400 people working with us, we have five laboratories. In the next three years, we plan to increase the headcount to 1,000 and add few more labs," Manfred Bayerlein, President and CEO, TUV Rheinland, told PTI.

Germany's TUV Rheinland Group, having annual revenue of Euro 1.4 billion (Rs 9,700 crore), has been present in India since 1996 through a subsidiary.

As an independent body, it inspects, tests, certifies products, installations, processes and management systems for international standards.

Bayerlein said TUV has been spending over Rs 30 crore a year for the last several years in India and now it would look at consolidating its operations, though acquisitions are also among its plans.

The company has five laboratories in India and is in the process of opening two more in Bangalore and Tirupur in the next few months.

"We will enhance the number of laboratories as we have many more services to offer. Besides, we are looking for acquisitions," he said.
