Hyderabad, Sept 4: : Here is good news for devotees of Lord Venkateswara or Balaji for northern Indians. Next time when you plan a visit to Tirumala, before starting the journey you can book for darshan of the presiding diety from your city. The Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) administrations is opening shops (online kiosks) initially in three southern cities - Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, which will be extended to other cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai in the second phase.
What has started as a novel initiative to speed up the pace of darshan, through Sudarshan tickets, has now turned as a digital solution for long distance devotees. "They can plan their stay well in advance based on the schedule of darshan," the TTD officials said. The technology for online platform is developed by Reliance Infocom.
TTD has already implemented the online receiving of contributions from devotees from Visakhapatanam, Kurnool, Bangalore, Madurai and Vijayawada. The Tirumala gets over 55 per cent of devotee inflows from three of the southern cities from where the on-line booking service will be launched from September 27, before the `brahmotsavam festival', the officials said.
"This would enable the devotees to plan their arrival and have comfortable darshan of the Lord," the officials pointed out.
The temple town has a capacity of about 25,000 rooms including about 1,000 three-star accommodation and 250 five-star accommodation. The tourist inflows into Tirupati during the unseason days is about 60,000, which will increase to a record of 2.50 to 3 lakh during the festival days.
