Hyderabad, January 5:: An indefinite strike by truckers in Andhra Pradesh begins from midnight tonight following a call by All India Motor Transport Congress, whose demands were not met by the Union Government.

Reduction in diesel prices, cut in tyre prices and withdrawl of service tax and other concessions are the demands of the truckers.

According to Gopala Naidu, president, Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association, the Union Government has been dogging the lorry owners' issues for the last three years, hence five lakh truckers will be off the road in the state.

There is every possibility of scarcity of essential commodities in twin cities in the state during the strike period. However, Naidu assured that supply of milk, water, and medicines will not be affected.
