A 24-year-old woman was killed and another injured in a tree-falling incident at Marathon NextGen Innova Park, a commercial complex on Ganpatrao Kadam Marg, Worli, on Thursday afternoon. Ashwini Satpute, a resident of Andheri, was on her way to office within the corporate park when the tree fell on her and the other unidentified woman around 12 noon. The two were rushed to KEM Hospital.
“Satpute was brought in a serious condition and admitted to the emergency surgical services ward. We started life-saving treatment immediately but her condition worsened and we were unable to save her,” said a doctor from KEM.
“Because of the heavy rainfall since last night the tree got uprooted and was leaning heavily on one side before it fell,” said Narayan Pai, Assistant Commissioner of the G South Ward. He added that the garden department gave the management of the private premises permission to trim the trees within its property on June 26.
Corporator Kishori Pednekar said, “Since it is a private property we don’t know what care is given to ensure that trees are properly supported. At present too, there are many trees in the park that are a threat to passers-by.”
