A number of trains from Howrah that ply in the east were either cancelled or diverted owing to flooding of tracks at different places due to the cyclone Nilam.
The 12839 Howrah-Chennai Mail scheduled to leave Howrah tonight was cancelled, apart from 18615 Howrah-Hatia Express and the 18616 Hatia-Howrah Express that was to leave Hatia tomorrow, South Eastern Railway sources said.
The last two trains were cancelled due to non-availability of link rake, the sources said.
The 12703 Howrah-Secundrabad Falaknama Express, which was to leave at 7.25 am this morning, was rescheduled at 00.45 am of November six.
The 12841 Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, that was to leave Howrah at 2.50 pm today, was rescheduled at 4 am on November six.
The 12665 Howrah-Kanyakumari Express has been rescheduled to leave Howrah at 5.30 am on Tuesday instead of 4.10 pm today, the sources said.
Several trains have been diverted via Ballarsah-Nagpur-Bilaspur-Jharsuguda-Tatanagar-Kharagpur instead of the normal route via Vishakhapatnam-Bhadrak.
These trains are 12840 Chennai-Howrah Mail, 12842 Chennai-Howrah Coromandel Express, 12666 Kanyakumari Express, 12864 Yesvantpur-Howrah Express, 12253 Yesvantpur-Bhagalpur Express, 22606 Villipuram-Purulia Express and 08636 Yesvantpur-Hatia Express, the sources said.
Reports from Bhubaneswar said several trains were cancelled and rescheduled as rail services on Howrah-Chennai main line remained affected for the second day today due to submergence of tracks and overflowing rivers in Andhra Pradesh under the impact of heavy rains triggered by cyclone Nilam.
Due to water flowing above danger mark between Tuni and Gullipadu stations in Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam section under Vijaywada Division of South Central Railway, several trains have been rescheduled and cancelled, East Coast Railway said in a release here.
The cancelled trains include 17481 Bilaspur-Tirupati Express scheduled to leave Bilaspur tomorrow, 18464 Hyderabad-Howrah East Coast Express scheduled to leave Hyderabad and 12840 Chennai-Howrah Mail scheduled to leave Chennai yesterday 2012 and supposed to pass ECoR jurisdiction today have been cancelled.
In order to provide additional service to the passengers, East Coast Railway had provided 3 special trains yesterday for the convenience of the stranded passengers for their destinations.
In another decision, 18546 Visakhapatnam-Howrah Special Train has been extended to Guwahati via Howrah.
