In a move that may lead to lower ISD and STD rates, the country's telecom regulator, Trai, on Thursday invited views to deliberate upon various issues related to the revenue-sharing agreements between long distance call providers and main operators.

"The objective of this paper is to discuss the various issues related to revenue sharing arrangements for Intelligent Network based Calling Card Services," TRAI said in a statement.

The regulator observed that by keeping high access charges, some of the TSPs (Telecom Service Provider) are "deliberately trying to kill" the calling card

business prematurely as it runs "counter" to their business interest.

It invited comments on the subject by November 28 and counter-comments by December 6.

There are about 27 International Long Distance Operators (ILDO) that have permit to provide ISD service and 34 National Long Distance Operators (NLDO) that can provide STD service.

However, some of these ILDO and NLDO are part of main telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, RCom, Vodafone and BSNL.
