Trai receives 2,140 complaints against operators in Apr-June
“Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has received 2,140 service related complaints, which include deficient and unsatisfactory services in 2012-13, up to June 2012, against telecom operators, including BSNL and MTNL,” Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Trai received 3,551 complaints in 2009-10, 2,401 in 2010-11 and 4,133 in 2011-12, he said.
“The individual consumer complaints received in Trai are forwarded to the concerned provider for redressal,” Deora said.
The Authority has recently prescribed to penalise telecom operators for providing poor quality of service which could attract fines of up to Rs 10 lakh for incorrect information on every performance parameter.
Trai has issued an amendment in regulation in which it has made provision to impose financial disincentives on mobile phone service providers for not meeting quality of service benchmarks.
Trai has also implemented a web-based 'Telecom Consumers Complaint Monitoring System' to enable consumers to lodge their complaints with their service providers, so that the customers can check the status of their complaints online, based on the docket number, Deora added.
