Toyota Motor Corp is recalling about 650,000 vehicles in Japan over airbag inflator problems, expanding a recall it had announced in 2013, the carmaker said on Wednesday.

Carmakers including Toyota, Honda Motor Co, Nissan Motor Co and BMW in 2013 recalled 3.6 million vehicles in total due to problems with the airbag inflator that could potentially explode. Those airbags were manufactured by Takata Corp .

Toyota said it is expanding the April 2013 recall that involved 2.14 million vehicles because the serial numbers that the supplier had provided had been incomplete.
