| Jamshedpur, Nov 7: After the successful implementation of its Rs 480-crore 100 per cent export-oriented gear-box unit at Bidai (33-km from Bangalore), Toyota Motor Corp (TMC) is now mulling the idea of putting up an engine-making facility in India. |
Mr Aoki said, “In order to achieve the 1.6 lakh target, we definitely bother about the volume-sale passenger car model. So, we want to know which segment is our volume-sale target,” adding, “We’re studying now which model is suitable for the Indian market, especially as this market is very competitive.”
Mr Aoki, who was here in connection with the countrywide celebration on one-lakh-mark Qualis sales, said that Toyota Motor Corp (TMC) had a large number of models in its stable to choose one for the Indian market.
Speaking about its best-selling Qualis, which the TKM director-marketing described as “number one in the MPV segment”, the company has fixed a sales target for the four-version Qualis at 34,000 units for the current calendar 2003. For its C+ segment car Corolla, which was launched in February, the company has set a target of 10,000 units. “So, 44,000 units is this year’s target,” said Mr Aoki.
The company has already sold around 6,500 units of Corolla so far. It has sold 600 units of fully-imported top-end three-box Sedan so far. According to the TKM director-marketing, while Qualis has seen 78 per cent localisation, Corolla has seen 66 per cent indigenisation so far. Toyota Motor has 99 per cent stake in TKM Corp and one per cent by the Kirloskar group. It posted a turnover of Rs 1,769 crore during 2002-03. The company is now targeting a turnover of around Rs 2,700 crore for the current year. The company also plans to expand its current dealership network of 40 in the country to 60 by 2005.
