Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Wednesday announced the promotion of its top executives as part of a new organisational structure aimed at faster decision making. The carmaker, which currently has four deputy managing directors for the commercial, sales, technical and manufacturing departments respectively, has now streamlined these functions into two divisions. While two of the deputy MDs will handle these divisions as chief operating officers, two others have been given new responsibilities.

A company release said the changes would come into effect from January. There would be movements at lower levels as well, an official said. Shekar Viswanathan, currently deputy MD (commercial), has been promoted to the post of vice-chairman (external affairs) that would involve government liasoning. Sandeep Singh will now be designated as deputy MD and chief operating officer responsible for the sales, marketing, customer service and commercial divisions. Masanori Takahashi will be the deputy managing director and chief operating officer heading the manufacturing, technical, purchase and vendor development departments, including supplier support. All the three executives will continue to hold positions in the company’s board of directors, the release said. Meanwhile, Shigeru Tomonaga, currently the deputy MD (manufacturing), will be the executive advisor to the TKM board and chief of supplier support centre.

“As we expand our operations in India, we need our team to take up new roles and responsibilities,” said Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD and CEO, TKM.
