Tourism Malaysia targets a million tourists from India
The Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia is going beyond tier 1 markets to tier 2 and 3 to tap a million visitors from India in near future.
Amran Abdul Rahman, Director, Tourism Malaysia who was here to attend Chandigarh Travel Expo, a three day event organized by India Travel Mart told media perons here today that during January to December, 2011, Malaysia registered 6.93 lakh tourists from India. He said that target for 2013 was to have atleast 7.80 lakh to e.00 lakh tourists from this country to Malaysia. He said that “India is our priority and Malaysia would market its potential in markets like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and.Kolkatta”. He informed that maximum visitors were from Singaproe(about four million per annum), Indonesia (1.6 m) and Thailand (1.2 m). About one million tourists from China visited Malaysia last year.
Rahman told that “in the year ahead, Tourism Malaysia aims to promote high-end tourism like spas, eco-tourism, golf and exotic destinations”. Idea is to go beyond tier one markets to tier 2 to tier three markets to reach a wider audience and to reach a figure of one million tourists from India in near future.
