To end RTR traffic mess, elevated link to Munirka flyover proposed
At present, the three-lane RTR flyover has two-way traffic movement, which results in congestion. With the new flyover taking load of one direction of traffic movement, the existing RTR flyover can have traffic going in the other direction.
“This plan was considered by PWD and discussed with RITES, which is making detailed plans for the suggestions made to decongest RTR flyover. According to the conceptual plan, the existing Munirka flyover will be extended till RTR flyover, and another flyover on portals will be constructed along the existing RTR flyover,’’ a senior PWD official said.
A portal structure will ensure that traffic continues to move at ground level also.
“It will be a three-lane flyover and traffic will move at grade (ground) level also. Two lanes will be available on the road for traffic movement on either side of the flyover,’’ the official said.
According to PWD, a formal proposal is being drawn up to be sent to Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (planning and engineering) Centre for approval. “Other suggestions will also be considered, but this seems to be the most viable option,’’ an official said.
