A trail run will be conducted at the Chandigarh Railway Station with the aim of changing the timing of the Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi that was recently started. Due to there being less time gap between the Kalka- Shatabdi that arrives from Delhi in the morning and the departure of the Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi, the former no longer arrives at platform number 1.
The Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi departs from Chandigarh at 11.40 am from platform 1 while the arrival of the Kalka-Shatabdi is at 11.05 am. Due to the time gap not being much, the Kalka-Shatabdi has been shifted from platform 1 even though Shatabdi trains generally arrive and depart from here. This was also causing inconvenience to passengers.
Another problem that is being faced is the lack of parking space at the station. Due to the arrival and departure of two Shatabdi trains, the parking lot is overflowing with vehicles. The vehicles spill over to the roads.
Keeping these aspects in view, it has been decided that a trial run will be conducted to assess the amount of time that is required for the train arriving from Delhi to arrive at platform 1 and for the other to depart from the same platform. Accordingly, the time of the Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi will be changed. It is expected to be shifted by a few minutes. A proposal has also been mooted for having a stoppage of the train at Ambala. A notification is expected in a day or so. At present, the train is non-stop.
A discussion on the issues was held during the visit of Divisional Railways Manager, Ambala Division, P K Sanghi at the Chandigarh Railway Station on Thursday. Sanghi also inspected the ongoing works at the station.
