: Life has been frustrating and I am going to report this frustrating experience. You must have seen recent reports in newspapers about cow’s urine having obtained a patent in the United States. I tried to track this patent down. As you no doubt know, the US Patent Office’s site is remarkably good, provided you know the patent number. If you don’t, life is difficult. I tried the search option and got a list of 2,281 patents that mention urine. No less than 147 patents mention cow’s urine. Going through 2,281 (or 147) patents is boring. I got out of this site and searched the Net for cow’s urine.

Do you know that there are hundreds of sites on urine therapy? Most of them are about human urine, rather than the bovine variety. However, there are some references to bovine urine. I didn’t know that a Cow Urine Therapy and Research Institute exists in Indore. Several sites will direct you to this institute’s website. But when you get there, you find out that www.cowurinetherapy.com is actually a search engine. Rather a strange name to have for a search engine.

From other sites, I gather that this institute’s work has established that cow’s urine can cure diabetes, blood pressure, acidity, asthma, psoriasis, eczema, AIDS, piles, prostate, arthritis and migraine. In case you are interested, a bottle of cow’s urine costs Rs 5. Not much, considering that cow’s urine apparently contains nitrogen, sulphur, phosphate, sodium, potassium, manganese, carbolic acid, iron, calcium, salt, Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, minerals, lactose, enzymes, silicon, chlorine, magnesium, various acids, hormones and traces of gold. I wonder where the gold comes from.

Did you know that there will be 10,000 cow urine therapy centres in the country and that 200 have already been set up in 18 states? By the way, another site says that a bottle of cow’s urine costs Rs 20. Perhaps the bottle sizes are different. Perhaps Rs 20 is the regular price and Rs 5 is a subsidised rate. Perhaps the price depends on the breed of cows and on the diet they have been reared on. There are also tablets and creams, where cow’s urine is mixed with medicinal herbs. And before I forget, cow’s urine is also an effective pesticide and fertilizer. Proved by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad’s research, no less. There seems to be a gomutra hospital in Indore and,...
