‘The Safari Gives You A Lot Of Confidence’

: “I pack at least 30 to 35 CDs whenever I am to go on a long drive,” says Ratish Pandey. The statement fits him perfectly, considering that he is general manager of Bose Corporation India and has a lot to do with music. “It can be anything from Hindi oldies to pop to western,” says Mr Pandey. He asserts that music is never a distraction while he is driving. “I can listen to music and also hold an engrossed discussion even when I am driving at 100 odd kmph,” he claims. Although music is important during his drives, it is the vehicle that matters the most to Mr Pandey.

“This is a very nice sports utility vehicle (SUV),” he slowly starts about the vehicle he owns at the moment. “When I bought this burning red Tata Safari, there were very few SUVs in the market and, of them all, I liked the design of the Safari the most.”

“When I took a test drive, I was really impressed and didn’t have any second thoughts about buying it,” he explains. “However, more than anything, the Safari is primarily a very safe vehicle. It is extremely stable and gives you a lot of confidence.”

Mr Pandey has done a fair number of long distance drives in his Safari. He says, “I have even taken this Safari to the Garhwal hills at about 12,000ft and it did fairly well.” Though he hastens to add that “a more powerful engine would have helped a lot, otherwise, I enjoyed the vehicle, it was good driving and performed well.”

Like any other corporate top honcho, Mr Pandey prefers to keep a chauffeur for city driving, but grabs the steering wheel himself on weekends and vacations. “Recently, I took a trip with my family to Kuchaman in Rajasthan. It was big fun. More than anything else, I got to spend time with my family although I was driving,” he smiles. “The best part of the fun was that the trip was completed in two stages and I reached from Jaipur to Delhi in just about two and half hours and averaged about 90kmph,” he says with a sense of satisfaction.
