: CAT preparation is all about smart work and knowing what you are capable of achieving. Half the battle is won if you are aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Then you know which are the areas that demand the bulk of your attention.

That is not to say you are exempt from hard work. Our teachers and mentors have always said that there is no substitute for hard work. The point I am making is the aspirant should work out a strategy well in advance and follow it through.

Being from IIT, the Quantitative Analysis (QA) section was never an issue with me but yes, I was definitely concerned about the personality assessment stage right from the beginning. Language was manageable for me. I maximised on my strengths, that is, QA and Data Interpretation (DI)/Data Solving (DS)/Logical Reasoning (LR). I had fixed time limits for all the sections and stuck to them.

My results came as a pleasant surprise; I really had not expected to do well. I am definitely very happy that I am amongst one of the toppers.

The Thumb Rules
Decide on a strategy at the outset and follow it through
Build on your strengths; but don’t ignore weaknesses
Trust your mentors; they provide the best advice
