Shortly after being exonerated by a Kerala court in the 1994 ISRO spy case, scientist D Sasikumaran had sought action against the three police officials who had allegedly framed him and others, including his ISRO colleague Nambi Narayanan.

“I had approached the chief secretary and the DGP. Unfortunately, our system does not have the conviction to punish the guilty,” Sasikumaran told The Indian Express. “No probe is being held into why and how they framed the scientists.” The government last year ruled out action against the three police officers.

While Narayanan has been fighting for justice all through, Sasikumaran had so far been silent in public. Now an engineering consultant in Thiruvananthapuram, Sasikumaran said the case ruined the two scientists and damaged ISRO’s reputation. “I can’t explain the trauma my family went through. Even for a murder case, it is imperative to prove that a person lived. There was no crime, but we were targeted as criminals. We have a ludicrous system.”

CASE & CLOSURE

The police had made out a case that Narayanan and Sasikumaran had passed on secret documents to other countries, especially Pakistan. They accused Chandrasekhar of Russia’s space agency, Bangalore contractor S K Sharma, and inspector general Raman Srivastava of passing on secrets of the Aeronautical Defence Establishment, Bangalore. They alleged that Chandrasekhar, Sasikumaran and two women from the Maldives, Mariyam Rasheeda and Fauzia Hassan, had met secretly to exchange papers and money.

In 1996, the CBI submitted its closure report in the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Kochi,

Nambi Narayanan and other victims of the ISRO spy case

NB Nair | 09-Jan-2013Reply | Forward
This horrible tragedy apart from ruining many innocent families along with that of Nambi Narayanan had also caused irreparable damages to one of our prestigious scientific projects in its race against time. The CBI enquiry had established who fabricated and executed this vicious plot: None other than a few of our top police officers! But, we the tax payers of this country are still in the dark as to the exact motive of this plot. Hope the Hon. High Court of Kerala will initiate necessary steps to bring to book the antinational elements behind this. Though this case was going on for the past many years few dared to say a word of support because the smoke of suspicion created was too obnoxious. Hope all the right-thinking citizens of this country will render their moral support to Nambi Narayanan and his co-victims. Any one there to provide his contact details please.

ISRO Spy case

At the time when the spy case was in the news, it was reported that the child of the now poor woman, Ms.Mariam Rasheeda was studying in a private school in Bangalore and she used to go to Bangalore by flight to visit the child. If this story was false, the then chief ninister coukd have easily exposed the police officers. If the story was true, the the spy case was genuine and what is happening now is another case of looting public money by politicians and ---. The fictional character Sherlock Holmes said that Prof.Moriarity was a criminal by just looking at a costly painting in the professors office. If Ms.Mariam Rasheeda's child actually studied in a Bangalore school, the spy story is true.

Completely confusing

What the hell is this article trying to say? Why can't you narrate it in simple English so that everyone understands. First identify the cast of characters, location, then the events, then sub events, then how it unravelled and finally the conclusion. Even 10th standard students can write this properly. At the end of it, I don't understand why the 3 police officers who acted in malice were left scot free. Why is the media silent on this? Shouldn't there be an investigation to find out who was behind this conspiracy to delay our strategic program. Why is our government and agencies keeping the finger up their a.s.s and not doing anything? Why is ISRO not supporting their own scientists, or asking the government/ministers to take it to the logical end? why are they not being interviewed by the media. I know it is completeley useless to expect anything from the media or the organizations or the ministers in India. Every one has a "chalta hai" attitude. God Save the country!!!
