A 19-year-old boy has been missing since the Faizabad police took him from his home for questioning in a loot case a week ago. The police claim they let off the boy the day after questioning, but Rahul Dubeyís family allege he is being kept in custody illegally.

Rahulís family has lodged a complaint in the court of the chief judicial magistrate and also sent a representation to the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, the National Human Rights Commission and senior police officers.

ďWhenever we go to the police station to inquire about Rahul, the policemen abuse us and say he is not there,Ē said Rahul's father Gauri Shankar Dubey (53). He added that police were harassing his son because he had canvassed for unsuccessful BSP candidate from Goshainganj constituency in Faizabad, Indra Pratap, also known as Khabbu Tiwari. The election was won by Abhay Singh of Samajwadi Party.

On November 29 morning, a police team went to Gauri Shankar's residence and took Rahul to Haiderganj police station. The family alleged the police team abused them and also beat their son.

Station officer of Haiderganj Bhanu Prakash Upadhyay admitted that they had brought Rahul to the police station on November 29, but released him later and didn't know his whereabouts. Upadhyay denied that they had brought Rahul from his residence and that he was nabbed from a village crossing.
