Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, the world's biggest technology expo, kicked off in Las Vegas, USA. CES will be open to public from Tuesday and will close on January 11. Among the top products showcased on Monday, here are some that caught the eye.

Nvidia Project Shield

This is the first major advancement in gaming ever since the Nintendo Wii brought motion-sensing technology to the field in 2006. While Razer gave a sneak peek to Project Fiona (a tablet with a control stick on each side) last month, Nvidia has pushed the idea a little further with Project Shield.

The device is a screen attached to a gamepad. The company has equipped it with its latest processor ( Tegra 4) and says it can play console-grade games. It has a high-resolution (1280x720) 5-inch display and can be connected to large screens via HDMI.

The good news is that the product can play both games designed for Android and PC. It runs on Android, so it can run all games on Google Play Store. The Shield also functions as a wireless receiver and controller. It uses this ability to stream games from any PC that runs Nvidia graphics cards (GTX 650 or higher). Users will need to purchase games on Valve's Steam service to play them on the Shield.

The company has not announced the price yet. It will be available in the US in the second quarter of this year, but there is no word on availability in India.

The headline is misleading. The giants like Microsoft, Apple, Google etc are missing. It has mostly start- up or emerging tech companies apart from some top foreign companies rather than giants.
