SummaryVRS Natarajan is alleged to have been handling the procurement for past several years.

Tightening the noose around BEML CMD VRS Natrajan, the CBI had called him for examination on Tuesday in connection with alleged irregularities in Tatra-BEML deal.

The agency had filed FIR against BEML and Vectra Group chief Ravi Rishi in connection with the deal. Natrajan was contacted by the CBI at his Bangalore office.

Rishi, chairman of the Vectra Group was quizzed earlier in connection with BEML’s Rs 5,000 crore deal with Czech truckmaker Tatra, the company in which Vectra has a major stake.

Sources said Natarajan, who has headed BEML for nearly 10 years, is alleged to have been handling the procurement for past several years. In fact, the contract was changed in 2003 and was in favour of Rishi. It was around the same time when Natrajan took over BEML.

Sources said the CBI wants to seek a clarification from Natarajan on the 'technical classification' set by BEML for the procurement of Tatra trucks from Vectra.
