The Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry today commissioned and inaugurated the Coke Oven Battery and By-Product Plant at steel plant's Jamshedpur facility.

Built at a production capacity of 0.7 million tonnes per annum, the 'Coke Oven Battery #10' and By-Product Plant operates with 88 ovens (with stamp charge technology) and was the largest battery unit at the Jamshedpur works, a Tata Steel release said.

It will also produce By-Product of Coke oven gas (44,000 Nm3/Hr), Coal Tar (35305 tons per annum) and Pure Sulphur (1668 tons per annum).

"It is befitting that the Coke Oven Battery #10 is being inaugurated on the Founder's Day," Mistry, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Steel, said.

"It was a challenging project and there was not a single safety issue faced since its inception," Managing Director Tata Steel H M Nerurkar said.

Earlier in the day, Mistry along with his predecessor Ratan Tata paid homage to the Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 174th Birth Anniversary.
