Swipe Telecom has introduced its Halo Value+ 7-inch tablet which packs a mediocre 800 x 480 pixels display and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform. The overall build quality of Halo value+ is good, feels solid and you get a plastic-chrome finish at the back that may be prone to scratches. One cannot really ask for much at this price hence we are more than willing to offer our fair judgment. The dual-core processor does a fine job, however 512 MB RAM is a let-down, leading to frequent lagging and slowdown while gaming and even multitasking.

The tablet’s in-built speaker surprised us and stood out as a good outlet for music, but on-the-go one should always prefer switching to earphones. Calling quality on the Halo Value+ is decent and we did not face any network or connectivity issues. However, the front camera is strangely placed at the bottom right of the display.

In terms of benchmark tests, the Halo Value+ scored 8,998 on Antutu, 3,404 on Quadrant and 1,302 on Vellamo HTML5. We have compared these scores with that of Lava Xtron which at 9,810 (Antutu) 3,710 (Quadrant) and 1,475 (Vellamo HTML5) fare better than Halo value+ at lower price point.

The battery on Halo Value+ is not long lasting and stood our battery test of running HD movies on Wi-Fi at full brightness for just over three and half hours. On normal usage you are sure to get anywhere between 6 to 7 hours.

Overall, Swipe has created a market for itself in tier II and III cities and we can see why. The Halo Value+ offers everything you need plus calling at price less than R7,000. Go for it if you want an entry-level calling device or you can look at Lava E-tab Xtron without calling support.

* Estimated street price:

Rs 6,999 (1 GB RAM)
