India's Suraj Sharma, who was nominated in the EE Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs, lost the trophy to actress Juno Temple.

Suraj hit the headlines internationally when Oscar-winning director Ang Lee picked him from 3000 other hopefuls to play the lead in his India-based drama 'Life of Pi'.

'The Atonement' actress, 23, was clearly more popular than Sharma as the rising star trophy is is the only award at BAFTA that is decided by public vote.

The other nominees in the hotly contested category were Andrea Riseborough, Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen.

Juno looked ecstatic as she took to the stage in a white halterneck Stella McCartney gown to pick up her award from best supporting actress winer Anne Hathaway.

The actress jokingly thanked her brother for "getting his whole school to vote for me".

The award recognises up and coming acting talent. Previous winners include names like Kristen Stewart, Eva Green and Tom Hardy, now big names in Hollywood.
