Hong Kong-based handset maker and distributer Sunstrike has launched its Optima Smart phones in the northern markets to gain a foothold in the highly competitive smartphone segment.
The handset maker is selling its Andriod-based smartphones in the price range of Rs 4,000-15,000 under different specifications.
Sunstrike Telecom, the Indian arm of Sunstrike International, also sells the Rage brand of mobiles primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of the country.
"We are confident that we will be successful in replicating the success of our Rage mobile series in this high end category as well," Sunstrike Telecom Managing Chanpreet Singh said.
It has launched the Optima Smart phones in major northern cities and plans to roll out the handsets in other cities in the coming months.
"We are targeting northern market initially. We have launched the handsets in Delhi NCR, Lucknow and Kanpur and are adding other cities in north India," he said.
Acknowledging increased competition in the segment, Singh said the company is hopeful of making a space in crowded market on the back of value-for-money and competitive features of its smartphones.
Also, the company is planning an advertisement campaign in the coming months to drive the sales of phones. It is also opening service centres in the region.
Last year, the company had a turnover of around Rs 100 crore. It expects a revenue of Rs 150 crore from Rage mobile phones this fiscal year.
The company has a network of 150 distributors and 6,000 retailers in the country. It also exports Rage brand mobiles to the Middle East and Europe.
