Students of 3 universities rally against Jamia fee hike, demand rollback
“This is part of our ‘Save Jamia’ campaign against the administration’s attempts to impose an astronomical fee hike and curb the democratic rights of students,” one of the protesters said.
Students from JNU and DU joined the protest in a show a solidarity as the protesters demanded that fee hike should be rolled back.
“The administration has managed to take such arbitrary decisions because there is no students’ union in the university over the past six years,” a Jamia student said.
The administration had justified the fee hike, citing new projects such as a laboratory at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre that needed money to execute.
The protesters have alleged that more than 35 students have been issued showcause notices for participating in a peaceful sit-in in Jamia a few days ago. “Representatives from the administration have threatened the students,” they said in a statement on Thursday.
