If Oracle solutions are deployed on Linux, the basic versions of which are available free of cost and flavours at a compartively low price, it could save companies more than 25 per cent of the planned spends, said L Gopalakrishnan, director - platform technologies group, Oracle India development centre.
The company’s solution, which runs on 16 different platforms including the more popular operating systems such as Windows and flavours of Unix, made available its solutions on Linux beginning 1999.
“Earlier, there was a time lag in making the new solutions compatible with Linux. The new releases all work on Linux,” explains Mr Gopalakrishnan.
