Stock Guru scam: Chargesheet filed, cops to probe bribe allegations

The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police on Thursday filed an 18,500-page chargesheet in the Stock Guru scam case at the Tis Hazari Court.

Sources revealed that during interrogation, Ulhas Khaire, the main accused in the case, claimed that he had bribed Income Tax officials to the tune of Rs 15 crore, when they conducted raids at his Dwarka residence in January 2012.

The CBI is conducting an inquiry into the allegations made by Khaire. Sources said a team of CBI officials had already interrogated an IT official from Ghaziabad in connection with this.

The chargesheet filed by the EOW has listed over 1,600 complainants from across the country. The police in the chargesheet have said a total of 26 cases were registered against Khaire and his wife Raksha in 10 states. Police said despite several notices from SEBI, the couple had not responded and had already fled to Maharashtra where they were in the process of starting a media consultancy firm.

Police have attached documents of 14 properties which the couple had purchased with “ill-gotten wealth”. The net value of the properties is said to be Rs 85 crore. A case of punishment for criminal breach of trust; criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent; punishment for cheating by impersonation; fraud; forgery of valuable security; criminal conspiracy; and, common intent has been registered against them.
