Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said Monday his government would ensure communal riots were not orchestrated in the state for the sake of votebank politics.

The chief minister was speaking at the meeting of National Integration Council at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, which was presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In his address, Chavan said the stateís intelligence had been asked to keep a tab on the misuse of social media to inflame communal tensions.

He said his government would soon hold social media workshops to prevent such misuse.

Chavan also underlined the initiatives taken by the state government to enhance security for women in the state.

He said all hospitals in the state had been asked to ensure that prompt medical relief was given to rape survivors.

The chief minister said the state had set up 25 fast-track courts to hear cases of crimes against women.

Chavan said the state Cabinet had recently cleared the Manodhariya scheme meant to soothe rape and acid attack victims. Besides a financial assistance of up to Rs 3 lakh, the scheme also aims to provide medical, legal and counselling help to rehabilitate the victim.

The CM urged the Centre to make use of mobile technology for providing an emergency help link to aid women in distress.

Another scheme, the Sukanya, aimed at empowerment of the girl child, which was recently cleared by the state cabinet, also found mention in Chavanís speech. The chief minister also spoke on various welfare measures adopted by the state for empowerment of minorities and backward classes.
