LUCKNOW: US Ambassador to India Nancy J Powell interacted with students and faculty of Indian Institute of Management - Lucknow (IIML) on a brief visit to the campus Wednesday. In her interaction, Powell informed students about the new opportunities in the field of education and research jointly being explored by both nations. She also said the USA sees India as a leading strategic partner, and is keen to take the relationship further. Meanwhile, IIML Director Dr Devi Singh, informed Powell that the institute is taking initiatives to promote women empowerment, and has nearly 40 per cent girl students.

State IAS association to get new secretary

LUCKNOW: The UP IAS Association will get a new secretary as incumbent Partha Sarthi Sensharma is going on study leave to London from September 11 for a year. A meeting of the executive committee, under the chairmanship of association president Alok Ranjan, will be convened by month-end for the election of a new secretary. The UP IAS Association was revived in November 2012 after a gap of six years.

Nagpal husband, 15 IAS officers get fresh postings

LUCKNOW: Sixteeen IAS officers of the 2011 batch were given fresh postings Wednesday by the Uttar Pradesh government as joint magistrates. Among them is Abhishek Singh, husband of Durga Shakti Nagpal who was suspended last month on the charges of demolishing the wall of an under-construction mosque in Gautam Budh Nagar. Singh has been posted in Jhansi.

Rajnath, Amit Shah in Lucknow next week

LUCKNOW: BJP national president Rajnath Singh and general secretary Amit Shah will be in Lucknow on August 23 to address the party’s “Vyapari Sammelan”. The programme will be organised at Ravindralaya.

Two constables booked for gangrape

Muzaffarnagar: Uttar Pradesh Police Wednesday booked two constables —- Deepak Rathi and Vikas Choudhry —- on charges of allegedly gangraping a 30-year-old woman and looting her at gunpoint at Gageru village of Shamli district, DSO C P Singh said. The duo also looted cash and ornaments from the victim’s house, he said, adding that the accused also threatened to kill her if she spoke of the incident to anybody. The woman has been sent for a medical examination, he said.
