SSTL, Uninor seek re-look into SC’s 2G verdict
SSTL, a joint venture of Russia’s telecom giant Sistema and India’s Shyam Telelink, filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court seeking a re-examination of the February 2 verdict.
“SSTL has consistently maintained that being a pure play CDMA operator, its legal case is significantly different compared to other mobile operators. There is no finding or suggestion by the CAG report that CDMA spectrum was equally or anywhere near in demand as GSM back in 2008,” the joint venture of Russia’s telecom giant Sistema and India’s Shyam Telelink said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Uninor has filed an application in the Supreme Court on the grounds that Trai’s proposals on spectrum auctions were not in line with court orders. The telecom regulator has suggested a 10 fold hike in the reserve price for 2G spectrum at a base price of Rs 3,622 crore for one megahertz (MHz) for pan-India spectrum along with stiff rollout obligations.
“While the Supreme Court enabled new operators to continue after procuring fresh licenses and spectrum through auctions, the recommendations are asking for all but one new operator to be evicted,” the company said in a statement, adding that it hopes the Supreme Court would ensure that its orders are fully and accurately complied with.
